Backyard gardeners rock

There was an interesting article in the NY Times today about the role of European backyard gardeners in protecting genetic diversity. Long live the backyard gardener! We're saving humanity from supermarket tomatoes, one garden at a time.

You put your finger on the button there with supermarket tomatoes. They are my pet hate! I just finished the last of my tomatoes a few weeks ago. Have to wait 6 months for my next lovely home grown cherry tomatoes. Long live backyard gardeners!

They really are horrible, aren't they? I cannot fathom why people buy them, or why restaurants persist in putting huge wedges of the mealy things in salad, ugh.

I am jealous that you'll have cherry tomatoes in just 6 months! If I see some if I'm lucky I'll have some in July....
