Later, driving to the Wiscasset Garden Club plant sale, a male pileated woodpecker flew across the road in front of us, then landed on a roadside tree, giving us an outstanding view.
Returning home, we saw both male and female orioles on the orange feeders, snacking.
At the plant sale, we got:

Pink Foxglove

Pink Foxglove
Now, time to plant, weed, mulch, mow, etc. etc. etc. We've both had nasty colds, but it's spring, the sun is out, and there's no time to waste!

Ours returned today also! We have a Rose Breasted Grossbeak coming to the feeder all day for about 2 weeks now. The Red-Bellied Woodpecker still comes along with Cardinals, 1 Purple Finch & the rest of the feathery crew. I just heard the Oriole again, they sing almost all day long in the Sycamores along the river. Had Red Tailed Hawk this morning soaring over the house. Looks like your gardening is picking up momentum!
I`ve been hearing the baltimore orioles for several days and finally got a fleeting glance at one this morning. The leaves are really popping out on the trees and once that happens there is little chance of me seeing an oriole again. Mom
We'll have to set you up with an orange feeder, Mom. They love the oranges, and will come to the feeders set out in the open. Otherwise, you're right, the orioles do tend to hide amidst the trees.
Louise, I've never seen a red bellied woodpecker, they don't come this far north :-( We still have two pairs of woodpeckers coming to the feeders, a hairy and a downy pair. We're keeping the suet feeders going through nesting season.
Hey Ali, We do have red bellies this far north. Over 10 years ago I saw and heard them in Brunswick and for the last 2 years I have heard them for a very short time in Richmond. As a matter of fact I heard one this weekend early in the morning. They have a very distinct call. It is very exciting for me as I thought I would never see/hear them again once I left Baltimore.
Oooh! I know the've been moving north, but I've yet to see one. I'll have to learn the call and start looking! Are there special treats that will atract them to feeders?
