Blowhard Barry

Tropical storm Barry Barry passed through mid-coast Maine yesterday, and the wind and heavy rains claimed a casualty here at Henbogle.

Remember the leaning lilac? Well, it's no longer leaning. It crashed to the ground sometime during the day Monday, just missing my new clethra bush.

Barry also left us with 1 1/2 inches of needed rain -- it rained hard enough to batter some of my new perennials, but I can't complain too much, as I knew the storm was coming and failed to protect the plants. I think they will recover, though. At least the newly planted vegetable seeds got a good drenching!

Ali,

Thanks for the link to lunapots. Now I have pot lust!! I am going to HAVE to take a pottery class. Sorry about Barry - we had him too, right before you. We needed the rain, but not the wind!

Ali: Your poor lilac! It's good that most of your other plants seem to have survived. I just saw your comment on my Sungolds (been out of town and too darn busy). Thanks for the offer, but I can wait another year. Unless you didn't find other homes for your extras, yet . . . . :)
